WHAT IS “LITERAKOYA” ?
“Literakoya” is a coined word that combines “literacy” and “Terakoya.” Terakoya refers to a kind of private elementary school of the Edo period in Japan.
We believe that regardless of language or location, everyone has the fundamental right to receive an education. However, there are still people in Japan who do not have access to a basic education.
Our goal is to help such people achieve basic literacy in their native languages, and in doing so, enrich and diversify Japanese society.
WHAT DO WE DO?
☆We hold study meetings for students whose native language is not Japanese during summer, winter and spring holiday of school.
☆We hold lectures and workshops to inform people on the importance of literacy.
☆We do research on literacy education and produce educational materials to help children enjoy their studies, placing a special emphasis on children with special needs such as DAISY textbooks.
